How to know when it’s a good deal

It can be hard to resist temptation when shopping. But just because there’s a sale on and the prices flash in red doesn't mean that all offers are good. Here's what you should think about before buying anything that’s on sale.

Check the price history

It’s not uncommon for shops to raise their prices just before a sale, and then lower them again to give the impression of a good discount. With our price history, you can see directly if the shops cheat with their prices, and also how often there are price reductions. This will make it easier when planning your purchases, as well as ensuring that it really is a Black Friday bargain.

Check if it’s a new or old product

Many shops release last year's models when new products are come out. It may be a good idea to check for good price reductions on the outgoing models. But be careful - if you buy an older mobile phone or TV set, the risk is that it no longer has support from the manufacturer.

Check if the price is lower in another shop

Just because a shop has lowered its prices it does not mean that they are the cheapest. In many cases, you can find the same item at a lower price in another shop. In some cases, you can save hundreds of pounds by choosing the right shop. Don't forget to check stock status and reviews - the cheapest shop may not be the best option for you.

Long deliveries and high shipping costs

Today, free shipping and fast deliveries are common. However, if you are unlucky, it can be the opposite. Shops with warehouses abroad often have longer delivery times and if you don’t want to wait, it may be worth paying a little extra for faster delivery. Also, keep in mind that returns can be very costly if the shop does not offer free return shipping, especially on heavy goods such as appliances and televisions.

Package prices help you save money

Don't forget that a large purchase is often followed by several small ones. It may be that your new laptop needs a sleeve or bag, that your mobile phone needs a cover and screen protector, or that you need a stylus pen for your tablet. These extra costs can account for a large part of the final price and cost you several hundred more than you first imagined. First, check if there are cheaper package prices that reduce the cost compared to separate small purchases.

Check out other options

That expensive gadget that has a nice promotional price might be really attractive right now, but do you really need it? Sometimes there are cheaper products that meet all your needs. And when you are still in the same line of thinking - does the gadget you want to buy replace something that still works well?
