Mass Effect Legendary Edition is finally released! The game package contains the first three games in the Mass Effect series with improved graphics and almost all released expansions.

If you’ve played the original games from 2007, 2010 and 2012, you’ll feel at home immediately. The goal of the Legendary Edition has been to increase the quality of the games without changing what made the trilogy so acclaimed in the first place.

One of the improvements is that the games have been adjusted so that they feel better balanced than the originals, for example, how much XP you get from the missions.

Many features have also undergone some practical changes. Especially Mass Effect 1, which is now more similar to the two sequel games, for example in weapon accuracy and handling, and the companions’ command system.

All games have been improved with support for 4K resolution, high-resolution textures and reworked lighting effects. There have also been a number of minor changes that remove annoying game moments or just improve the game feel.

In total, the three games have received hundreds of bug fixes and all the sound effects and the music have been reworked from scratch. So, a solid work, which is also shown in the results.

NOT included in the Legendary Edition

EA has included almost everything from the original games in the Mass Effect Legendary Edition, but there are some things that are not included in the game package:

  • More than 40 expansion packs are included - but not Pinnacle Station which is lost forever because the source code is gone.
  • Multiplayer mode is not included. This mode was included in Mass Effect 3 but has been removed from the Legendary Edition version.
  • Mass Effect Andromeda is admittedly a Mass Effect game, but is independent of the first three and is therefore not included.

Xbox Series X is best suited for a TV that supports 120Hz

All game consoles, from Xbox One and Playstation 4, up to Xbox Series X and Playstation 5, can run Mass Effect Legendary Edition at 60 frames per second. But if you want to run it on any other than the very latest models, the image quality will suffer.

If you have a modern TV that supports 120Hz, Xbox Series X is your best choice. Only that model supports 120Hz in Mass Effect Legendary Edition, admittedly with reduced resolution to 1440p, but you’ll get a pleasantly soft image that not even the Playstation 5 can match.
