  • Nikon Coolpix S70

    Design: 8/10
    Features: 7/10
    Ease-of-use: 8/10
    Image quality: 6/10
    Value for money: 6/10

    Conclusion
The Nikon Coolpix S70 is a well-built but controversial little snapper. As a digital compact camera, it is average - it has some nice functions, such as the Touch Shutter feature that lets you focus on your subject and take a picture very quickly; but enthusiast photographers will likely bemoan the limited level of user control over the picture taking process as well the lack of a pre- or post-capture histogram to check exposure.

    The good:
Zippy, well executed touch-screen interface; great tap-and-shoot feature; attention-getting design.

    The bad:
Leisurely performance; battery charging done in camera might bother some; tricky to hold.

    The bottom line:
The Nikon Coolpix S70 has a top-notch touch-screen interface and eye-catching design, but you're definitely paying for them.

  • This camera offers you complete touch control. The camera is easy to operate as long as you are comfortable with screen icons rather than text based menus. Picture quality is good in a lot of instances, but sharpness can fall off in more distant scenes.

  • Nikon Coolpix S70

    Plus

    • Very responsive overall
    • Reasonably attractive design
    • Quality OLED screen, despite low resolution
    • 720p HDTV video mode
    • USB wall charger, but no battery charger

    Minus

    • Poor quality images above 400 ISO
    • Purple fringing and limited dynamic range
    • No exposure histogram while taking photos
    • Touchscreen interface not very fluid

    Conclusion
The Nikon S70 left us wanting more: although it has an attractive design with a sleek (but not very fast) touchscreen OLED display, the quality of photos is more than questionable, and spoils things, which is a shame.
