Here are ten blockbusters unveiled at Sony's big live event for the PS5
Horizon Forbidden West
Horizon Forbidden West is the official successor to the popular blockbuster Horizon Zero Dawn. Just like in the first game, we follow Aloy on her perilous journey through incredibly beautiful landscapes, and also encounter the many dangers that are hiding there. Guerilla Games is the game developer behind both games, and we hope they succeed as well with the second game as they did with the first.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Spider-Man: Miles Morales shakes up the game series with a new main character playing the superhero Spider-Man. The game is an official successor to the acclaimed 2018 game Spider-Man and is being developed by Insomniac Games. Many details about the new Spider-Man: Miles Morales have yet to be divulged, but the teaser trailer for the game reveals at least a few new skills and an improved track design.
Resident Evil Village
Resident Evil Village is the eighth game in the series and reintroduces two famous names from the previous games – Ethan Winters and Cris Redfield. As the name suggests, this new Resident Evil takes place in creepy (to say the least!) village filled with all the dangers that characterise the Resident Evil series today. In this game, the focus is on the combat system and the ability to explore more, which will distinguish the new game from 2017's Resident Evil 7.
Gran Turismo 7
Do you love car racing? Then maybe you'll be excited to hear the news that Gran Turismo 7 is being released for the PlayStation 5. At the time of writing, we don't know much about the game other than the fact that it will feature a new campaign mode, but odds are that we'll see new cars and tracks as well as upgraded graphics. Gran Turismo 7 will be the latest game in the series after Gran Turismo Sport, which was released in 2017.
Demon’s Souls
Demon's Souls is a reworked version of the original game developed by FromSoftware. Demon's Souls is an unforgiving game with high degree of difficulty. You are expected to die over and over again, resurrect and slowly grind your way through the game's exceptionally difficult bosses. Bluepoint Games is the game developer working on the new version, and it promises a game that has been completely reworked from the bottom up.
Grand Theft Auto V
It comes as no great shock that Grand Theft Auto V will be released for the PlayStation 5. The game will feature major technical improvements and visual upgrades, and it will be optimised for the higher performance of the new game console. Grand Theft Auto Online, which is normally an integrated part of the game, is getting a standalone version that all PlayStation 5 users can download free of charge after the launch (PlayStation Plus is required). Grand Theft Auto V is also being released for the Xbox Series X and will be launched in the second half of 2021.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is the next big launch in the Ratchet & Clank series, and the game is coming to the PlayStation 5. During Sony's big PS5 event, a demo of the game was presented. It hinted that we will not only get to play the iconic duo again, but perhaps also a brand new lombax character. Other details include glimpses of the duo jumping between dimensions via wormholes in a seemingly load free world. It also appears that players can ride on dragons – and that alone is exciting enough to make us want the game! The latest Ratchet & Clank game was released for the PlayStation 4 in 2016, so a new title in the series is highly anticipated.
Sackboy: A Big Adventure
Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a colourful adventure game featuring crazy tracks, characters and sneaky monsters. Once again, we get to control Sackboy from the LittleBigPlanet series – but this time it seems that we will be able to do so in three dimensions instead of two, as in the previous games. In Sackboy: A Big Adventure, you can either play by yourself or with your friends. Along the way, you collect items in bubbles that you can use to create your own tricky tracks.
Hitman III
Hitman III will be released in January 2021 as the third and final game of the World of Assassination trilogy. Once again, we assume the role of an assassin and visit various locations to find and 'take out' our targets. How you do so is entirely up to you. Hitman III continues the series exceptionally freeform setup, in which players can choose many different ways to reach their targets and... 'making them an offer they can't refuse', so to speak.
Ghostwire: Tokyo
Ghostwire: Tokyo is a new blockbuster being released by Bethesda. It will debut on the PlayStation 5 in 2021, and precisely as the name reveals, the story unfolds in Tokyo, Japan. In the game, 99% of the city's population has disappeared and there is a constant threat from creatures known as The Visitors. Your goal is to use your superpowers to save the city and its few remaining inhabitants.
