If the CPU temp ever touched 80C then it would turn off the whole computer. So I didnt go above 1.2v, mostly was run at 1.2v 4.3GHZ on the CPU and cache, cache voltage similar.

Kingston 1600 1.65v, hyperX? blue anyway.  All my ram is 1.65v, I know intel recommends 1.5v, but thats like saying they need 1333mhz (stock) memory only, to me anyway :P

That's weird, it shouldn't turn off until core temps hit 105C, and 80 should be fine. Unless that's a "case" temperature? If it was it would make sense (and be very high). 1.2 V should be fine, so not sure why it would have degraded that much unless it was running really hot or the motherboard was doing something weird.

Also strange. It should have run correctly. Maybe there's something else strange going on, possibly to do with both?

Still on the system I built ages ago:

i5 3570k, Asus P8Z77V-LK, Sapphire 7970, 8GB G.Skill DDR3, Corsair 650w, Antec 902, Dell U2412M

I haven't played games for about 3 years now so no reason to upgrade. But hopefully once I finish being a student in 2 and a half years time I can incorporate some games back in and upgrade. Next build will definitely be small form factor! Loving this monitor still though, one of my favourite purchases.

I upgraded my system pretty recently-ish:

i7 7700k

Asus Z270i Gaming

16GB Corsair DDR4

Samsung 960 Pro 1TB

DanCase A4 - this has arrived just waiting on cables from Cablemod.

I'm not salty at all that Intel decided to make the 8700k a 6 core part. (I am actually very salty)

Same thing happened with me lmao, bought i7 7700k just before official 8700k specs were released. The worst part is can't even upgrade now without getting a new motherboard too.

That's always annoying... My situation wasn't far different, I already knew it was rumoured that Coffee Lake was to have 4-core i3 and 6-core i5 and i7, but I had to replace stuff right then. Fortunately, I don't really need anything better than what I've got, but... I also expected the mobo to support the new CPUs if I wanted to upgrade once they were out, but no (which is stupid – but not quite as bad as releasing the non-overclocking i3 and i5 CPUs but still no H or B chipsets).

I originally had a 6600k z170i gtx1070 but the 6600k was a bottleneck at 1440p and the overall performance was disappointing, i was planning to get a 7700k but the price of one-second hand made a 8700k a better option and a motherboard with x2 m.2 slots.

there was a guy on TM selling new 8700k and m.2 ssd under retail price.

I now i have, 8700k,z370n wifi, sf600, 2x 512gb m.2 card,2tb 2.5, sold my 1070 the other day.

I want to get a dan a4 but i will have to wait a while.

It's pretty depressing. The only game to utilize the latest hardware seems to be the most popular at the moment, PUBG. And by utilize, I mean when at highest graphics settings it still looks worse than 10 year old games and requires current highest end hardware. No wonder hardly anyone here is bothering to upgrade.

Sounds nice! What graphics card do you have right now then?
