Time this 'waste of space' was removed....
This list needs to be gone... seriously...
It's misleading and borderline trolling.
Of course you can download stuff with this computer. But I’m absolutely convinced that you can use this machine hack in NASA and take over the control of Curiosity.
I think that the list is deliberately overkill for a joke . . .
Agree with the others, for plain "downloading" this idea is overkill 9000!
Want a CHEAP downloading machine? (Assuming you already have another machine for surfing, gaming etc)
1) Dig that old computer out from your basement (P3 and up will do, at least 512MB RAM)
2) Get a couple of PCI SATA cards and several large HDDs
3) Important: Get a PSU that's NEW and quiet (the old one is likely a piece of junk)
4) Install Linux onto the old HDD it probably has (Anything 4GB+ will do)
Lubuntu would be a good choice, lightweight and easy to use.
5) Get downloading!
First of all, why do you need a 24" widescreen monitor for downloading stuff?
If it's going to be purely a download box, then you'd need the cheapest CPU out there... like an i3 processor, 4GB of RAM max, and forego the SSD and 24" monitor and 750w PSU.
You could build a basic PC for well under $800.
750W PSU is complete overkill. You're basically ensuring bad energy efficiency by running that PSU at lower watts.
Change ssd to a OCZ vertex 2 (a lot faster write speed). Buy a Caviar Black hard drive (much faster).
You dont need 750watt psu. Try a 500-600watt one.
Chuck in a sandy bridge i5 2500 (k if you want to over clock)very good media graphics and encoding/decoding.
The case inst the best but the style makes up for it and if you only want a basic case its worth it.
Pretty good list but you might want to change the above.
i have around 2.6 tb and its all filled.. lolz
Why would you get 3 sticks of RAM for a dual channel MB?
